Gillen stated he wanted to explore the irony that if superheroes were to appear, the last thing the world could afford would be for them to fight each other. So here is a superhero comic where fighting is off-limits, unlike just about every other hero comic ever. The characterisation is newish, making Batman a lot more human and a lot less Dark Knight, but it’s still Batman, and the confusion of wild characters and idiotic criminals feels a bit like a photocopy. But the love interest angle is nicely done, and there’s an intriguing new villain in amongst the regulars. Alas after six issues I was ready to abandon this series and then…
